The SEMO trombone/euphonium studio promotes a nurturing learning environment focused on promoting and establishing strong fundamental musical habits. Here at SEMO, we recognize that patience and diligence is key as we strive for an ever-maturing approach to practice, pedagogy and performance.  The overarching goal for the studio is to produce well-rounded musically astute musicians via a supportive atmosphere.

WELCOME!! My name is Dr. Joseph Jefferson and I am the Assistant Professor of Trombone/Euphonium & Director of Jazz Studies here at Southeast. Josey "Joey" Paar

Instrument: Euphonium

Where are you from?

Festus, MO

What do you like about playing and studying the Euphonium at SEMO?

My favorite part playing the Euphonium is playing with others! I love every opportunity I get to perform with other euphonium players. They are such beautiful instruments with a dark, singing tones!

What are your goals?

My goal is to fully understand and master my instrument, and then inspire others to play the Euphonium.

Fun Fact?

I love chocolate and anything sweet!

Luke Alan McFall

Instrument: Trombone

Where are you from?

Metropolis, IL

What do you like about playing and studying the Trombone at SEMO?

The family-like relationship the studio members have with one another.

What are you goals?

I'd like to be a well-known composer but teaching is pretty cool too.

Fun fact?

Despite a long history of musical ability in my family, I am the only one so far to officially study music in college.

Joel M. Fasnut

Instrument: Bass Trombone

Where are you from?

Potosi, MO

What do you like about playing and studying the Trombone at SEMO?

I enjoy making music with other people.

What are your goals?

My goal is to become a music teacher and start teaching students how to play instruments of their choice.

Fun fact?

My primary instrument is Tuba!

Alex Evrley

Where are you from?

Taylorville, IL

What do you like about playing and studying the Trombone at SEMO?

I love the family feel of the music department. I also enjoy the fact that even the professors know they can always improve. One of my favorite things about studying with Dr. Jefferson is that he he will never ask us to do something that he wouldn’t do himself.

What are your goals?

My goal is to graduate from SEMO with a Music Education degree and start my career as a High School Band Director.

Fun fact?

In High School, I won the John Phillip Sousa and Louis Armstrong Award.

Clayton Moser

Instrument: Trombone

Where are you from?

Bloomfield, MO

What do you like about playing and studying the Trombone at SEMO?

The program at SEMO is fun and engaging. I enjoy having the opportunity to perform and learn from other musicians. I have gained several friendships throughout my experiences.

What are your goals?

My goal is to obtain the Music Minor to accompany my Digital Art Major. I look forward to expanding my knowledge as a musician (trombonist & singer) so that I can utilize these skills thoughtout my career in the Arts.

Fun fact?

I've recorded a CD at Ardent Studios as a member of Big Star.

Tatum Leigh Akins

Instrument: Trombone

Where are you from?

Albany, MO

What do you like about playing and studying the Trombone at SEMO?

Being a part of a family. The studio is really tight and we’re always there for each other. We even have a game of tag that’s been going on for weeks.

What are you goals?

My goals are to constantly be improving and competing against my peers.

Fun fact?

I love to bake! I make the absolute best pecan pie brownies.

Amos Levi Smith

Instrument: Trombone

Where are you from?

Sikeston, MO

What do you like about playing and studying the Trombone at SEMO?

I enjoy playing, especially when I practice something. The feeling of mastering a piece is unlike anything else. I also really enjoy being around the studio, we all get along pretty well.

What are your goals?

I want to improve as much as possible. I also want to earn my doctorate, and eventually teach at a university.

Fun fact?

I also play ukulele.
